From 2010 to 2017, the former Center for Cultural Studies and later on the Walter Benjamin Kolleg presented the highly successful Distinguished Lectures Series (DLS), established by Prof. Dr. Thomas Claviez. The DLS comprised a series of lectures – usually between three and four per year – on a certain topic, and invited scholars of world renown to give a talk and a connected workshop. Among its speakers, the DLS has welcomed scholars such as Giorgio Agamben, Paul Gilroy, Homi Bhabha, Jacques Rancière, Judith Butler, and Alain Badiou. The proceedings of the first series were published by Fordham UP under the title The Common Growl: Towards a Poetics of Precarious Community in July 2016.

Since 2014, the DLS has partly been funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation due to the series association with the Sinergia project "Theory and Practice of Authenticity in Global Cultural Production." Click here to get further information on the project.
