Conference

International Interdisciplinary Conference on Language, Violence and the Search for Peace in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, November 17-18

This conference will take a closer look at language, violence and linguistic violence in Eastern and Southeastern Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries. The topic at hand has become more important due to the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine and the accompanying war of words. In addition, the relevance of the topic is underlined by the situation in the Western Balkans. This is demonstrated, for instance, by the increasing tensions in Kosovo at the beginning of this year or by the ethnic conflicts dominating the elections in Bosnia and the way in which the elections were dealt with in politics and the media. The conception of the conference is deliberately rather broad in terms of disciplines. Presentations are from the fields of history, linguistics, literature studies, education theory, theology, political science, cultural studies, and sociology. Apart from talks, the conference additionally includes a panel discussion. The conference languages are German and English.
